About Lu Hong:

Lu Hong Lu Hong thinks of his art as "a kind of language, not just a vision." He strives to convey a message, feeling, or thought in a manner which will capture the attention of his audience. He is mesmerized by composers such as Chopin, Wagner, Mahler, Satie and Schoenberg, and writers like Dante, Milton, Baudelaire, Mallarme and Wilde; if he listens to a musical composition or reads a poem that inspires him, he uses it to develop a visualization which expresses the meaning he drew from that particular piece.

Another characteristic of Lu Hong's paintings is reminiscent of ancient Chinese art, American Indian art, and the work of Picasso. He cuts many of his subjects into sections, painting only the most important parts. This distortion of perspective causes a natural blending of his subjects into their surrounding, further enhancing the magical quality of his works.

Lu Hong was born on December 28, 1959 in the coastal city of Qin-Huang-Dao, People's Republic of China. After graduating from high school in 1981, he passed the national examination and attended the most prestigious art school in China, the Central Academy of Design and Arts in Beijing. From 1983 to 1986, Lu Hong began to develop his own style, studying ancient art from different cultures, researching the primitive artifacts of all ethnicities, and absorbing influences from the works of Cezanne, Klee, Magritte, Redon, and Picasso. He often thinks of that time as the period when he matured as an artist and as a man.

Seeking intellectual and artistic freedom, Lu Hong moved to the United States in 1986. Since his work was introduced during the New York Art Expo in 1987, he has become one of the most acclaimed contemporary Chinese artists throughout the world. His works have been exhibited in Chile, Japan, France, Holland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Canada; in the United States, his paintings have been displayed in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, Miami, Houston, and Honolulu. His works and exhibitions have been published and reviewed by many newspapers and art magazines, including Art News, Art in America, Sun Storm, Quest, the New York Times, L.A. Weekly, the Chicago Tribune, and China Daily News. Recently, Lu Hong's work has been acclaimed and auctioned in China.
